Welcome to Udon Syouri

4 Chome-2-9 Ote, Matsumoto, Nagano 390-0874, Japan

General Info

Located at 4 Chome-2-9 Ote in the heart of Matsumoto, Udon Syouri is the kind of udon noodle restaurant that quietly earns loyal fans through consistency, care, and unforgettable flavors. This spot feels grounded in everyday Japanese dining culture, yet every detail-from the menu to the table service-shows thoughtful intention.

The first thing that stands out is the noodles themselves. Firm, smooth, and freshly prepared, they form the backbone of every dish here. One of the most talked-about items on the menu is the Souffle Egg Udon Noodles with Truffle. It’s a comforting bowl with a refined edge, where the airy egg texture melts into the udon while the truffle aroma adds depth without overpowering the dish. It feels indulgent but still balanced, making it a highlight dish that regulars often recommend in reviews.

For those who appreciate classic preparation, 盛りうどん (Mori Udon) delivers clean, straightforward flavor. Served chilled, it allows the texture of the noodles to shine, especially when dipped into the accompanying sauce. On the warmer side, かき揚げうどん brings a satisfying contrast-crispy vegetable fritters paired with hot broth and chewy udon, ideal for a relaxed lunch break.

Tempura lovers will find plenty to enjoy as well. The 天 pork tempuro is crisp on the outside, tender inside, and pairs naturally with the restaurant’s udon offerings. If you’re hungry or dining with someone, the かき揚げ丼セット is a practical choice, combining a rice bowl with udon for a fuller meal that feels well-paced and satisfying.

Beyond the food, the overall experience is easy and welcoming. Lunch service runs smoothly, the staff provides attentive table service, and the wheelchair-accessible entrance makes the space comfortable for a wide range of guests. There’s also happy-hour food for those stopping by later in the day, plus a paid parking lot nearby, which is helpful given the central location.

Udon Syouri fits naturally into Matsumoto’s dining scene-a place where locals return, visitors feel at ease, and the menu speaks clearly through flavor rather than flair.

What customers say?

“ Highly recommand the "spicy meat" udons. Only if you can handle spice! The food was delicious and quite cheap. Family style feel of restaurant. Waiter even spoke a little english. Recommanded. ”

“ Very traditional udon soup. Excellent in every way. ”

- Mark S -

“ They sell udon, hand made so it’s quite thick and chewy. I bought kake udon for 550 (or 600?) and buy it using the vending machine. Then you can choose your own topping such as ebi, chikuwa, toriten, etc (with additional pay if course). They don’t really have many seats but the place is very well air-conditioned. The owner/waiter also speaks English! ”

- Aulia Listiyadhi -

“ We had a great dinner here! We had the Chicken Tempura Udon and Shrimp Tempura Udon. The menu included English names for the dishes, which in Matsumoto is not common. The price is right and the taste is incredible. Thank you for a great night! ”

- Dennis de Pijper -

“ Superb udon that is thick and chewy, with variety of excellent tempura side dishes ! The owner is attentive and super helpful, must give 10/10 for her service! Btw, better prepare enough cash as it needs to order with the ticket machine. ”

- Onega Cheung -

“ Best udon that I have ever had! The owners are so kind. Don't skip the fried chicken! ”

- Dan Kisos -

“ This udon was unbelievable. Very thick and chewy. I had the kakiage udon that had vegetables and my husband had the ebi tempura hot udon. Both dishes were delicious and at a fantastic price. They also had an English version of the menu but the ticket machine is in Japanese. This was easy to figure out if you don’t read Japanese. ”

- Kerri Onotera -

“ We tried both the hot and cold udon, both were tasty. But unfortunately the tempura was cold. The outdoor seating was nice on a sunny day. ”
